Former Gov. Charlie Crist to endorse Keith Fitzgerald for Congress

Gov. Charlie Crist on Tuesday will endorse Keith Fitzgerald's bid to unseat U.S. Rep. Vern Buchanan in the Nov. 6 election, according to Fitzgerald's campaign.

The former Republican governor, who in 2010 lost an independent bid for U.S. Senate after the GOP nominated now-Sen. Marco Rubio, is set to appear at a news conference in Sarasota to endorse Fitzgerald, according to a news release.

Crist has been rumored to be considering launching a new campaign to re-take the governorship in the 2014 election, maybe as a Democrat. Crist last month heartily endorsed President Barack Obama during a speech at the Democratic National Convention in Charlotte, N.C.

Fitzgerald, a New College political science professor, is challenging Buchanan, R-Sarasota, in the 16th Congressional District. A prominent political handicapper last week rated the race as "favored Republican," after earlier listing it as "leaning Republican."

Also, a new independent poll taken Oct. 3-4 showed Buchanan with a 17-percentage-point lead over Fitzgerald.

  5. So... Crist left the GOP as soon as he ran into some resistance. What makes the Demos think he won't do the same thing to them?
Also, it seems rather odd that Crist would endorse someone who won't so much as speak out against the ridiculous and disgusting statements, published by people running the Fitzgerald campaign, attacking ALL republicans as, "misogynist" "child haters" who "hate women, African Americans, fire fighters, police officers, the poor, the middle class, anyone but each other." (among other things that BradCom won't publish if I repeat them here.)
With the Crist endorsement, it looks as though Keith has surrounded himself with all manner of unsavory characters.
I'm sticking with the guy who has been run through a legal and political wringer with all sorts of accusations and lawsuits against him that have been proven false... Vern Buchanan for US House!

  6. Scott has done a better job cleaning up Crist mess than Obama has done cleaning up Bush's.
