Manatee's Craig Bachler takes key spot in Santorum presidential campaign

Veteran Manatee County political operative Craig R. Bachler has taken a senior position in Rick Santorum's Florida campaign.

Bachler, who previously had worked on Pat Buchanan's presidential campaigns, as well as other campaigns for lower offices, will be Santorum's director for Florida grassroots and field operations.

Santorum's campaign on Friday announced its leadership team for Florida, leading up to the Republican presidential primary on Jan. 31.

There is a strong Manatee-Sarasota bent in Santorum's organization.

The Florida campaign chairman is Jesse Biter, president/CEO of Biter Enterprises LLC., a Sarasota-based management firm. Biter has previously worked on Mike Huckabee's presidential campaign and Rep. Vern Buchanan's congressional campaigns.

Also, Manatee political activist James Ferguson is in charge of Santorum's regional operation in West Florida.
