  1. This week Democrat Kathy Hochul has won a triumphant grassroots victory in the special election in NY-26. Congresswoman-elect Hochul’s victory in a staunchly-Republican district has sent an unmistakable sign that the American people will not stand for the Republicans’ reckless and extreme agenda to end Medicare. The Medicare privatization bill’s father is Rep. Paul Ryan, R-Wisc. At its introduction, Ryan’s idea, which also scaled back Medicaid, was declared “serious” by the Washington pundit class.

Our own Vern Buchanan voted for the bill, which was approved by all but four Republicans in the House and no Democrats; the bill would fundamentally diminish the federal program that insures seniors so they don’t have to choose between health care and life’s other necessities. 40 Republicans in the Senate voted to end Medicare as we know it.

Back in the 60's when Medicare was first passed, the Republican Party didn't want it then and in forty years, nothing has changed. The Republican party is not intested in the welfare of the majority of the population; their actions illustrate that they are interested in protecting the rights of corporations and the richest 2% of the population.

  2. The GOP is anti: middle class, public sector employees, elderly, disabled, union, living wage, pension, servicemen, cops, firefighters, EMT's, teachers ... basically, if it benefits the middle class the GOP is against it. The GOP has worked hard to fill elected seats with millionaire CEO's who's function is to provide huge subsidies (our tax $) and huge tax breaks for the wealthiest 2% of Americans while paying for it with the hard earned tax dollars of the middle class. Vern Buchanan is so anti middle class that he even voted against the 9/11 First Responders Health Bill which would provide treatment & medication for the 10,000 cops, firefighters, EMT's,construction workers and volunteers who were exposed to the toxins from 'Ground Zero' and are now sick & dying ... while at the same time voting in favor of extending tax breaks for millionaires and billionaires (seeing that he is one of the wealthiest members of congress this seems self serving, doesn't it?) ... Not a very patriotic guy, Buchanan is one of the many wealthy CEO's turned elected officials who have forced life long, middle class members of the GOP to re-evaluate party affiliation and subsequently leave the party that no longer respects their opinion or their needs.
